Farming + Sustainability Immersive Program

Fall 2026 Applications Reopened! Spaces Limited!

Our Farming + Sustainability Program is a unique, immersive farming and learning experience focused on agriculture, sustainability, land stewardship, and food sovereignty through an Afro-Caribbean-centered perspective. The program combines hands-on agricultural learning with meaningful community engagement, cultural exchange, and service. Community service is a required component of the program, and participants will actively contribute to community and agricultural projects throughout the experience.

Over five days, participants will explore urban farming, regenerative agriculture, food sovereignty, food apartheid, environmental racism, the climate crisis, and community-based responses to food insecurity. Guided by ReglaSOUL co-founders Amberly and Alexey, participants will take part in hands-on agricultural and community service projects, including work at ReglaSOUL’s community garden in Regla and visits to our family farm in Soroa.

The program also includes travel to Artemisa province and the town of Soroa, located in the Sierra del Rosario mountains. Participants will learn about Afro-Cuban resistance movements, cimarrón healing practices, ecological stewardship, and the agricultural knowledge and traditions of enslaved Africans and their descendants that profoundly shaped Cuba’s relationship with the land.

Throughout the program, participants will engage directly with Cuban farmers, community cooperatives, herbalists, Afro-Cuban religious leaders, scholars, and educational institutions that are part of the ReglaSOUL family. The emphasis is on learning through service, meaningful exchange, and reciprocal relationships rather than simply observing Cuban communities.

As part of our commitment to sustainable relationships in Cuba, program fees directly support Cuban people, community-based initiatives, agricultural projects, and the local partners who make this work possible.

“Spending my spring break in Cuba was a rewarding soulful experience. I was able to not only learn about the history, culture, and the people of Cuba, but I felt that I was able to keep my hand on the pulse of the Cuban people and the importance of being an Afro-Cuban. The experiences has enriched my knowledge and understanding of the Afro Cuban society”

"Regla Soul is everything they promise and more. I remember being introduced to the opportunity in Spanish class being lured in by the prospect of visiting an afro-ecological farm in Havana, cuba. While this was the day I looked forward to the most every item on our itinerary was so complex and interdisciplinary that although my cohort had a diverse set of majors and concentrations we could all take something away from every visit and conversation. Traveling with Regla Soul is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live as closely with Cubans as possible"

“Tourist vacations typically offer surface-level education and photo-worthy sightseeing. However, our tour with Regla Soul provided a depth of experience that I will never forget. We did not simply point and shoot photos from afar. We spoke intimately with people representing the faces of Cuban history and culture. Our conversations allowed us to understand the source of Cuban pride, resilience, and innovation. I always dreamed of visiting Cuba. I'm so glad that I chose to experience the country and people with Regla Soul”
